Dental palate controllers date back to at least 1972, with the Finnish Research Institute for Bioengineering's "Typewriter Control By Dental Palate Key" (using Finish Morse Code - see photo below). More advanced systems followed in the 1990s and beyond for analogue computer control. However, Augmental's system is clearly the most refined and least invasive to date.
This one has no wires, no head-set, no magnet to glue to a tongue. The mouth piece can be created remotely from a 3D scan from any dentist able to supply one.
As well as using it alone as a mouse/touch type controller perhaps with extra touch areas for additional control, there are opportunities to merge it with other head-mounted controls. Perhaps using the MouthPad^ as the left-stick, and a chin joystick for right-stick. Very interested to see how this takes off.
